The Global Environment Facility regularly convenes regional workshops to bring together government focal points and civil society representatives to discuss plans and priorities for shared action. These Expanded Constituency Workshops (ECWs) allow partners to share experiences from implementing GEF-supported projects, and to visit initiatives underway in the host country.
The 2020 East Africa ECW, held February 18-21 in Nairobi, Kenya, brought together government and civil society representatives from Comoros, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, and included a site visit to the RFS Kenya country project, the Upper Tana-Nairobi Water Fund.
As the subject of GEF’s latest Good Practice Brief publication, the RFS Niger project gave a presentation on the project’s innovative approach to applying integrated natural resources management and land restoration approach to improve food security, enhance resilience, and conserve biodiversity. The presentation shared key lessons learned from West African experiences with the East African countries in an effort to enhance South-South learning exchanges and knowledge sharing.

The Good Practice Briefs are produced by the GEF Secretariat in collaboration with GEF Agencies. Shared at the 57th Council meeting, this pilot series identifies good practice examples from the GEF project portfolio, in line with key GEF2020 strategic priorities and GEF-7 programming directions and policy recommendations. This brief highlights the Resilient Food Systems Niger country project, the Family Farming Development Programme (ProDAF), a project that seeks to tackle climate change and land degradation, while scaling-up sustainable natural resource management for family farming.
